In 1967, Western Airlines purchased and absorbed the routes of longtime Alaskan operator Pacific Northern Airlines. It continued to fly the Seattle-Alaska and inter-Alaska routes with the PNA Lockheed L749 Constellations until 1969 when they were replaced by Lockheed Electras and eventually Boeing jets.
